The OUR is publishing the results of its audits of emissions from mobile telecommunications sites in the Bailiwick. The first of these audits took place in 2004. The purpose of the audits is to check that all sites comply with the most stringent international safety standards for emissions levels.
It is the responsibility of each licensee that uses radio spectrum to ensure that the non-ionising (non-radioactive) radiation from its networks are within the safety limits specified by the International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
During mast audits, measurements of emissions are taken and compared against the ICNIRP standard for safe public exposure. The audit also examines safety processes and procedures that each licensee has in place to ensure their on-going compliance and to ensure the safety of the public, their own staff and others who may come into contact with the mast sites.
